I cook the cabbage at the terminate. Cut it in wedges and cooked seperately from the meat. I use ane/2 cooking liquid from the meat and 1/2 craven broth with butter added to the liquid. Cooked until just well-baked tender. Gives the cabbage a lovely flavor, it stays green and doesn't become all mushy.

This recipe is very good as written and is very piece of cake to make. I always similar to read the reviews and brand the recipe the original fashion and so once more and tweek to reviews equally needed, I like helpful constructive reviews. The only frustrating thing is when people modify the whole recipe. They should send in their own. Tracey did not fifty-fifty comment on this recipe,(not sure if she tried information technology) put hers in the reviews and said her family volition only eat hers. That is neat but I feel information technology is a disrespectful to the persons recipe. Please ship in slight changes to aid us, practise not rewrite. Thank you

Absolutely succulent. I started out by cooking this on the stove top as the recipe states (for nigh 45 minutes) but due to a family emergency, I had to leave the house. Before leaving, I put the meat and liquid into my crock pot. By the fourth dimension I got abode, the meat was perfectly cooked (45 minutes on stove, then vii hours in crock pot for an almost 3 lb. roast). I took the communication of some other reviewers and added 1/2 stick of butter to the liquid as the meat cooked and I also used beef broth instead of water. The next day on the stovetop I cooked the cabbage, carrots and potatoes in the liquid the meat cooked in the night before. When the vegetalbes were done, I added the meat back into the liquid simply to warm it. It was SOOOOOO practiced!! I will definitely make this again!!

Fantastic! I have always kind of "winged" it with corned beef and cabbage, with varying degrees of success. I read many of the reviews and added a canteen of beer to the water to simmer the meat in. WOW! This is it! From now on, no more winging information technology! For spices, I used the parcel seasonings, some minced garlic. Added unpeeled ruddy potatoes, onion slices, babe carrots and of course cabbage wedges.

this is my first time making corned beef and cabbage, and my fiance and i idea it was terrfic, the meat was very tender and juicy while the vegetables was absolutley superb & tasty. The corned beef was 3.75 lbs that came along with the spice packet, instead of water i used beefiness broth, added half dozen big cloves of garlic, 1 large white onion cut up into wedges, 2 bay leaves, 12 whole peppercorns, 10 small ruby potatoes/carrots, 3 tbls of butter to bring out the richness of taste ... all in a crockpot -- it took me 8 hours to cook this dinner and it was worth every minute of information technology.

I did not have to melt this recipe, this is the aforementioned as my grandfather always made it. To the people out the writing reviews adding beefiness broth and what not . . THIS IS Not Beefiness STEW! It IS NOT SUPPOSED TO Gustatory modality Like Information technology. If you modify the recipe so you are making something else. This is exactly how yous make Irish corned beef and cabbage. If y'all alter it, so you are making something else.
03/13/2009
Jeepers, information technology needs onions! Everything except desserts needs onions!
03/17/2013
This will be the fouth fourth dimension using this recipe and it is simple and yummy. The minor changes I do is cut upward the potatoes and apply small carrots that I don't have to cut or pare. I don't empathise why the most helpful review on hither does non follow this recipe at ALL! Please post your own recipe and permit people review it. I notice information technology Non helpful to me when reading reviews. If you add Beefiness broth, brown carbohydrate, mushrooms, onions, even beer. I tin can understand one or two changes simply all that is something different and so Corned beef and cabbage.

Cheers again for a wonderful recipe but cheers also to all who write these dandy reviews. It is so dainty to read what cooks remember of the dish they make. Yesterday I made this Corned Beef & Cabbage & in my 45 years married to wonderful Irish husband he tells his Italian wife that it was the best yet. WOW! What is funny to me virtually Allrecipes.com is that now whenever I come with a new dish, friends or family volition say: Allrecipe.com?? They know me by now. The reviews helped so much on these recipes. The trouble I had with this is that in that location were no spice packets in the pkg. so I simply did my ain thing…four garlic cloves, crushed, pepper corns, mustard corns, two bay leaves, pepper, dry mustard & the merely change I made was calculation bottle of beer. When the beef was done I put it in a dish, covered with foil. Then cooked my veggies in those wonderful juices till not quite done. When they were done I put them in a dish with broth, covered with foil & put in a warm oven till I was prepare to serve. Sliced my cooled downwardly beef, put in a xiii X 9 dish covered with foil put in oven till ready to serve. I did make the Horseradish sauce and it was very good too, merely I constitute that it was cold next to the nice hot corned beefiness. I'm sticking to Grey Poupon….Also a little sprinkle of white vinegar on cabbage is smashing. Also helps with whatever problem that may occur afterward!! ? Outstanding!! Wow…great recipe. Thanks Laria and thank you all with the great reviews. Nana Happy St. Patrick'south D

All-time Corned Beefiness and Cabbage EVER!! I didn't change a matter and it turned out perfect!! Super simple recipe with amazing results! YUM
12/22/2009
Straightforward recipe that turned out a tasty boiled dinner. The simply affair I'd practice differently next fourth dimension is skim the top once information technology boils the first time and then add the spices.
01/28/2004
I executed the recipe as is (tin can't truly rate it otherwise can you?) and was thoroughly pleased with the results. Timing is very subjective of course, depending on the the kind of pot you lot apply (enamelled iron, steel...), your stovetop (gas, electrical, halogen...) or oven (regular, convection...), just the times given in the original recipe are a very good approximate - only recollect that tenderness is what you aim for. My only improver was a generous swirl of sweet butter in the strained broth earlier serving; it adds a lovely richness to the sauce. Viii thumbs up (there were four of the states)!
03/sixteen/2006
This is the way it'south done. We always told my mother to make actress veggie'due south considering nosotros knew what was coming the next day and that was the best role. The next day was cold sliced corned beef and my mother'south vegetable fry. She would chop upwards all the leftover potatoes, carrots and cabbage and fry upward in a well seasoned fe skillet.. what she used as base, butter I think, she would permit cook until it got crispy, and then turn and practice over again. To this twenty-four hours, I can not duplicate simply keep trying. Endeavour information technology you volition love it. A medley of flavor..

I've been doing information technology this way for over 30 years. In the last half 60 minutes I'll pull the brisket from the pot, put information technology in a roaster and embrace it with 1/4 cup of brown sugar and identify covered in the oven with only a small amt of juice in the bottom. The chocolate-brown sugar will melt and create a wonderful glaze for the corned beef. While the beef is in the oven I'll use the liquid in the pot for the veges and so I'll also add a layer of dumplings to the top after the veges begin to eddy. Luv it so much that I practice it more than just Patty'south Day
x/07/2011
The perfect simple Corned Beef recipe. In that location's plenty of ways to prepare this meat, but if you desire simple and delicious just follow along and you won't be disappointed. I am unremarkably a recipe "modder" I seem to always be adjusting quantities and adding things. However lately I have been only trying recipes as they are written to discover out how the author likes it. This one was fantastic! I was very skeptical of the simplicity, just wow it just was peachy! Cheers alot!

Slap-up recipe. added tracey hint: I take the corned beef out and while the cabbage carrots and pot'due south are cooking in the liquid, I put the brisket in the oven for 30 minutes with this sauce that I combine on the stove until polish. 1/3 cup of brown saccharide,2 tblsp of butter tlbs. of prepared mustard, ane/3 loving cup of ketchup, and 3 tblsp of apple tree cider vinegar. I combine these ingredients till smooth, then pour over the brisket while the veggies are cooking. 30 to twoscore mins. at 350 will do it. Hope you like it, all of my friends who detest corned beef will only swallow mine!

Lovely people, This recipe is wonderful written 'equally is' - only I'd like to speak to those of you who are aggravated about people changing upwardly the recipe then rating information technology, since 'changing it up' really doesn't give y'all an accurate review of the recipe equally written. I have this to offer: Some of us employ what's on-mitt rather than going out and buying ingredients specific to the recipe. I find this very helpful on occasion because one) you might non have to go shopping if you lot utilise the substitutes or 2) you lot can learn a dissimilar way to use a spice or other ingredient - which only makes you a ameliorate cook. Also - I've found a few recipe reviewers who have taken allergies into consideration. Sometimes those 'change ups' can exist invaluable and save time when you don't have to scour the Internet trying to find a way to omit a certain ingredient just notwithstanding get the total effect of the dish. I, likewise, am sometimes frustrated with the review system - merely if you try to understand where the reviewer is coming from, sometimes you tin can make a 'just okay' dish into something completely out of your original realm of thinking. Tolerance, folks ... just by the mere fact that people take the time to review dishes, even if they do change them a bit, shows they care enough to share their information with you. Happy cooking!
03/12/2011
I add one more step (delicious) after you remove the corned beef from the liquid, brush the peak with regular prepared mustard and then add together a thin layer of lite brown suger on top of the mustard, put into a 350 oven for most 30 min.
04/03/2012
I fixed this iv times in March. I practise believe that it is the all-time Corned beef and Cabbage recipe. I have a very good Irish friend of 75 yrs old and she told me it was the best she e'er had...and preceded to tell it to the owners of a 100 twelvemonth sometime Irish gaelic cafeteria and shop. I cooked it in only guiness beer and beef broth. Added peppercorns, bay leafage and onions. When the meat was tender I removed it from the pot and glazed it with a tart Orange marmalade, brown mustard and brown sugar coat and wrapped in foil and put it in the oven. So I strained the broth, then added the potatoes and carrots and a stick of butter. I cooked the cabbage (I used savoy cabbage) in a dissever skillet, braising information technology in the broth with butter until cooked but even so crispy. Made a Horseradish sauce of 3/4 sour cream, 1/four horseradish, 1 tlbs dried chives and the juice of one/2 lemon. This recipe will impress anyone yous serve it to.
08/ten/2008
Adept recipe. The corned beef is really corking when served topped with a horseradish dressing. 1/2 cup mayo, i/two cup sourcream and horseradish to taste.
03/12/2009
This has been my standard recipe for years. I take establish one thing that takes it to the top. After the corned beef is done cooking I remove information technology from the pot or crock pot and top it with a glaze of mustard and brown sugar. Yous can mix information technology to your liking. I make a lot and let it drip downward all the sides. I then put it in the oven until information technology is heated through and the brownish sugar is dissolved. Then piece and enjoy.
03/14/2012
I agree with others...skip the crock pot...the quondam fashioned manner works best. I like to cook the corned beef, remove from h2o and wrap in aluminum foil to continue hot. Then I strain the h2o to get out the peppercorns and re-utilise to cook potatoes, carrots and cabbage. This way you don't bite into a big peppercorn hiding in the cabbage.
03/20/2007
As per some of the suggestions, I used ii cans of beer & 2 cans of beef goop instead of water and cooked it for 7 hours in the crockpot. I also added 3 cloves of garlic and an onion to the crockpot. I should accept given the potatoes and carrots 90 minutes. I merely allowed for 30 and dinner was quite late. Even my hubby liked information technology who swore he hates corned beef and has never liked cabbage - but he ate information technology all!
03/11/2012
this was fabulous, showtime I boiled the corned beef on peak of stove in h2o, one guinness, ane bay leaf, the spice packet, and i shot of Jameson whiskey, I followed the advice of another review which said to glaze the corned beef for the terminal 40 minutes with the 1/3 loving cup dark-brown sugar, 2tbsp melted butter, one tbsp prepared mustard, one/iii cup of ketchup, and three tbsp of apple tree cider vinegar, broil forty minutes at 350degrees while the vegetables are cooking, cut the corned beef across the grain. Serve with soda breadstuff. It is soooo good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!i
03/02/2005
Just a note that may assistance in cooking this meal, Add some Caraway seeds when you add the cabbage. It will help to go rid of the gas that you lot will probably get from eating the cabbage.
09/15/2006
Traditional corned beef for St. Patrick's 24-hour interval.. or whatever other time of the year when you can't stand to have it merely once! ***UPDATE: I fabricated this again this year and it was absolutely delicious, but with these alterations: I used ane can of Guiness, beef broth, and a h2o to boil the meat. In addition to the spice packet, I added 2-iii tbsp. mustard seeds, whole black peppercorns, and 3 bayleaves. The cabbage took about 20 minutes to cook even when I turned up the temp (I took out the meat). I would recommend 2 heads of cabbage b/c I like the cabbage. I used about an entire (save the few I snacked on while cooking) ane lb. bag of baby carrots and 12 baby carmine potatoes. I wouldn't omit the potatoes b/c they blot a lot of the salt and you can cease upward with a really salty roast. Anyway, this recipe is a great starting signal, only with additions information technology can be awesome... and it was! Everybody gobbled it up on St. Patty'southward. Thanks!
03/17/2012
This was very good! The only change I made was to add together three large cloves of chopped garlic. I also made a sauce for the brisket as mentioned by a fellow member named Tracey. This is what she said... "I take the corned beef out and while the cabbage carrots and pot'south are cooking in the liquid, I put the brisket in the oven for 30 minutes with this sauce that I combine on the stove until smooth. 1/iii cup of brown sugar,2 tblsp of butter tlbs. of prepared mustard, one/3 cup of ketchup, and three tblsp of apple cider vinegar. I combine these ingredients till smoothen, then pour over the brisket while the veggies are cooking. 30 to xl mins. at 350 will do information technology. Hope y'all similar it, all of my friends who hate corned beef will just swallow mine!"... Tracey'southward sauce recipe was PERFECT!!! I'll make my corned beef like this from at present on!
02/05/2013
Good, basic and functional - what I'd phone call a reference recipe. I did mine in the irksome cooker and added a bottle of Guiness Draught with enough water to encompass. I cooked the cabbage separately in some of the cooking liquid. Reliable, only more instructional than a unique recipe.
02/17/2014
I'm Irish. VERY Irish. And this is my Become TO recipe for corned beefiness and cabbage. I but gave it 3 stars, so why is it my Go To?? I gave information technology 3 stars based on how it tastes equally-is. It's my Go To because it keeps the recipe uncomplicated. Here's the thing - you don't take to do anything fancy to make amazing, over-the-top corned beef and cabbage. People think information technology needs to be complicated. It doesn't!! The Merely matter I added and information technology makes a HUGE difference - 1/2 jar of McCormick Pickling Spice. I forgot this ingredient once and never will again.
05/04/2009
this is the best corned beefiness and cabbage i have ever tasted an perpared, subed beef broth for water and cooked veggies in broth......wow i couldnt end eating.THANKS? LOL
03/17/2014
I followed the recipe exactly as written. Oh, except I changed a million things. By the fourth dimension information technology was finished, information technology was an entirely different meal. Loved it!
03/13/2011
I just made this recipe tonight. I didn't alter a unmarried thing! IT WAS Awesome!!!
06/05/2013
Cutting off the big fat then cover the corn beefiness with beef broth Add peppercorns, bay foliage and onions to spice packet. Earlier adding the spice packet, yous outset bring the meat to a boil and skim the foamy stuff off the height of the water.. cook meat @ fifty min. per lb Take the corned beef out and while the cabbage carrots and pot'southward are cooking in the liquid, Add together some Caraway seeds when yous add together the cabbage. Glaze for brisket Put the brisket in the oven for xxx minutes with this sauce that I combine on the stove until shine. i/3 cup of brownish sugar,2 tblsp of butter tlbs. of prepared mustard, 1/three loving cup of ketchup, and iii tblsp of apple cider vinegar. I combine these ingredients till polish, then pour over the brisket while the veggies are cooking. 30 to twoscore mins. at 350 will do it.
12/28/2009
Hullo, quick question. If I want to terminate this in the oven exercise I shorten the original cooking time? Thank you
02/28/2011
Oh my gosh! Wonderful. I prepared it right past the recipe. My family of five gobbled up a two.vii pound corned beef brisket in no fourth dimension. There wasn't much chat at this repast, except that they were begging me to cook this again even before we were washed eating. Will definately cook again!
03/11/2009
My husband and I enjoyed this very much. Our kids had never eaten Corn beef, so they were on the debate, nonetheless for them. They loved the veggies very very much. I placed this in the crock pot/deadening cooker all twenty-four hour period. I used a 6qt on high. My pot was really full so the cabbage I placed in 1 i/ii hours out from serving dinner. All the veggies were soo good. The meat was very tender, flavored well and soo like shooting fish in a barrel to cleave up for slices. Volition brand this over again for married man and I.
09/08/2008
This is the same recipe my grandma taught me but to save fourth dimension, I put everything in the crock pot.
eleven/03/2002
Wonderful recipe! I would definately make this once again. However, I would alter a couple of things. First, if the corned beefiness y'all buy has an excessive amount of fat on the underside as many of them exercise, trim the fat. Also, exercise as one reviewer suggested, add beef broth instaed of water. I also added an onion. Loved this easy to make recipe. Effort it.
03/14/2009
I fabricated this one last week and it was really good. I rinsed off the beef when I took information technology out of the bundle, so proceeded as directed. I used regular potatoes, peeled and cut in half instead of the red potatoes and they worked fine. I cooked the potatoes and carrots nigh thirty minutes before adding the cabbage. The meat was very tender and the veggies cooked just correct.
03/xviii/2009
I wait all yr for this meal just I had never made it myself until this year. A friend gave me the advice to pull the beef out of the pot when yous put the veggies in, sprinkle dark-brown sugar on top and bake it at 350' until the veggies and cabbage are done. Information technology was SO good! Delight attempt this!!!
01/08/2014
Followed exactly and it was fantastic. Married man wants more than!
03/14/2009
I don't even similar corned beef and cabbage and this was a striking! For the most part, I stuck to the recipe. Merely added one bottle of Harp beer, a Tbs. of minced garlic and a nuance of celery salt. I did non include the potatoes with the meat because we were having another potato sidedish, but I think they would've been good cooked in the pot. I cooked a 3 one/4lb. piece of meat for about four hours and it shredded beautifully. Slap-up recipe!
01/09/2012
Xclnt, easy dish! made this a few times. I utilise a VERY large pot. I added one can of light beer, and about two cups of apple tree juice. So filled the rest with water to cover meat. 45mins earlier brisket should be done, I add carrots and potatoes. 20mins before everything is done, I added the cabbage. YUM-O!
12/10/2006
OH MY! So much for following the recipe. While my beef was simmering in 8 cups of water for 2.5 hrs, I took a siesta. The water all evaporated and the beef burned. Fourth dimension to start again. A glass of wine for me, or mayhap 2, a fresh brisket, and half again equally much water.
06/16/2008
I take been making this for years. I likewise add a canteen of beer. I also use new potatos and celery, carrots, onion, fresh snap peas, fresh garlic, black pepper corns, mustard seed, dill seed, and lemon juice. Red pepper and bell pepper. I tin consume this for days. I don't trim the fat. The fatty is ane of my favorite parts. This is one of the very few recipes I make that I am not fat conscious almost. This and steaks. I tin can swallow this soup for days half dozen times a day!
03/17/2011
This is the archetype training. I follow this procedure with a few changes: Cutting the cabbage into large chunks and steam information technology separately until tender. Add as much butter as your diet will let :) and flavour with table salt and pepper. When the corned beef is fully cooked, remove it and put information technology in a baking dish. Mix mustard and brown sugar to make a very thick paste. Spread the paste on peak of the corned beefiness. Put the meat under the broiler until information technology bubbling and crisps. Past cooking the cabbage separately and adding the brown sugar paste yous'll enjoy more variety of flavors and y'all'll become a piffling crisis for texture.
02/26/2007
This was my first fourth dimension making Corned Beefiness and Cabbage and this recipe is definitely a keeper. I will exist making this once more! I used the red flat corned beef, turnip, peeled potatoes (both scarlet and Russet - couldn't tell the difference in taste), carrots, cabbage, white onion. My corned beef did non come up westward/ a spice packet, only when the meal is complete, the taste is still to die for. I added a little common salt and pepper and a bit of garlic, but there is really no demand to.
03/19/2004
I'm a rookie when it comes to cooking. In fact, I have never cooked a complete meal before attempting this recipe. On St. Patrick's twenty-four hours, my wife was working and I wanted to surprise her with a corn beef and cabbage dinner when she got home. The directions were easy to follow and the finished production was outstanding! I also made corn bread (my first attempt at baking breadstuff). I used chicken goop instead of just water as some others had recommended. The carrots and potatoes were really proficient equally well!! I was really surprised how delecious the repast turn out and so was my wife!!
x/04/2005
Love this recipe! Other reviewers suggest adding beef broth, peppercorns, etc., but I remember this comfort food is all-time made simply, just like proficient 'ol mashed potatoes. Speaking of potatoes, if you determine not to utilise them, look the goop to be pretty salty since the potatoes blot a skilful amount of salt during the cooking process. Also, for those with kids, mash the potatoes and carrots together (or separately) with a fork, add together a piddling butter, and they'll probably beloved it! Mine did (historic period six and 7).
03/14/2011
used 4.7lb beef, 2 heads cabbage, 7 med yellow taters . Cooked beefiness 3hr20min,added taters melt 1 60 minutes, added cabbage . cooked 30-35min till cabbabe tender simply crispy ! great !!!
ten/11/2002
YUM! I added extra peppercorns & beef goop instead of h2o (equally others suggested), classic cb&c, we love it! My picky daughter ate left over craven with the potatoes & carrots ;)Thanks Laria!
12/25/2006
if you want to add a bit more color and maybe a hint more sweetness to this recipe, try red cabbage with the dark-green, it is wonderful.
03/sixteen/2012
Adding a store bought spice mix and adding it to h2o is not a recipe.
01/01/2011
Merely perfect! Even hubby liked information technology and he is non a veggie lovin guy and then I wasn't certain most the cabbage but he went back for thirds!
12/18/2013
OMG This is so tasty information technology'south to die for! You don't need ANY other seasoning other than the footling package that comes with the beef, not even salt. The meat itself does all the seasoning and flavoring for y'all. Don't be scared about how your cabbage will gustatory modality! Some other footling tip - ADD SOME ONIONS. I love onions and it makes everything that much amend!! :) My family devoured this pot!
08/17/2002
Somewhat tasteless - won't cook again.
02/01/2011
I love this recipe every bit it is, just I plant making ii small modifications makes it even better (at least in my family'south stance). Starting time, add a one-half-cup or so of cooking sherry to the pot before starting. Second, replace the cabbage with 1-one.5 pounds of Brussels sprouts. It makes for a nice twist on an old favorite.
01/28/2011
FABULOUS! Like a some other reviewer, I had always winged it when information technology came to corned beef & cabbage. I followed this recipe to a tee and admittedly everything came our PERFECT! Corned Beefiness tender and starting to autumn autonomously - which I love - and the potatoes, carrots and cabbage were perfectly soft simply non soggy. From here on out, this will exist THE recipe to utilize!
03/15/2010
This is amazing! I used another reviewers tip and used one can of beer and 3 large cloves garlic pressed through my garlic printing (so enough water to embrace beefiness and adding the spices from the packet) and added 1 whole stick of butter at the same time I added the cabbage. I too cut my potatoes because they were fairly large red potatoes and that worked well. Great Great Great Recipe!!!!
03/11/2011
I prepared this just like the directions and my family just loved it!!
03/09/2014
Everything is okay until the full lack of onions. Ane onion, white or yellow, medium small per person.
03/xv/2011
Really, real Irish gaelic don't even eat this. It's an American Irish immigrant tradition from when this cut of meat was nigh the cheapest available. the poorer they were, the less that went into it. They also didn't have the dainty piffling spice packet either. Anyway, add the carrots, garlic, and if you feeling sassy, add broccoli tips. boil with a guinnes
12/31/2012
This recipe is perfect. I had never made corned beef before because I did not similar it as a child, simply my married man is Irish and really missed it. I tried this skeptically -- We all loved it! Now my kids request it all the fourth dimension. The best part about it is that the cabbage just cooks through, so it is non mushy and tasteless. Information technology has a wonderful, fresh flavor and is very like shooting fish in a barrel to brand.
03/12/2009
We did not treat this at all! The veggies were not done plenty & the cooktime wasn't long enough to disperse the flavors. I think it needs to be cooked all solar day.
03/15/2010
I made this Sunday, it was to die for. My married man simply loved the beef, said it was the best he has always eaten. Thanks
01/01/2013
Perfect and easy! I tried corned beef concluding year in a pressure cooker, it tasted nothing like this. This is easy. I made information technology exact to instructions with a three lb corned beef. Even my family liked the carrots, and no one in my family unit likes cooked carrots. We just voted to take this on a normal rotation for dinner instead of only new years day and St. Patrick's day.
04/04/2011
made as written. It was good. The 2d time I added a little red wine and water, 3 bay leaves, 3 whole cloves of garlic, two stalks celery, iii carrots,1/ii onion, and spice packet. Left the potatoes out. Added cabbage last hour of cooking. Turned out perfect!
05/12/2009
This is the first time my corned beefiness came out cracking. Cheers for the recipe
01/21/2012
This is an excellent recipe! The only other thing I add is an onion.
03/14/2009
Amazing. The pot I used was a little pocket-size, and so it was a tight fit, but I fabricated it work. Delicious carrots, potatoes, cabbage, and such tender corned beef. A fantastic recipe.
03/04/2003
This is a groovy recipe. Very easy, which is important. Using beef broth was a skilful suggestion, withal the meat that I used could accept cooked a little longer and the cabbage was a petty under done, probably 25 min would be better than 15. Merely overall information technology was very tasty and the whole family loved it!
03/14/2007
We melt this recipe every year at our St. Patty's Day party (sans the potatoes, add more cabbage), and our party grows every year due to discussion of mouth about the corned beefiness. Terminal year we hosted over 100 people and went through 6 large crockpots of corned beefiness and cabbage.
05/21/2006
Great recipe! I used a giant roaster for this meal since nosotros like a lot cabbage. This recipe is fool proof and always comes out perfect. I practise put my carrots in with the meat cooking process since my family likes softer carrots and I add the potatos and cabbage together and so you become no tough cabbage in the finish. Thanks for the recipe!
03/14/2015
I have tried many recipes like this and they are all good. I'yard directing my comments to all the negative people out at that place. Get out it lonely, anybody knows information technology is not an Irish dish It is a wonderful one pot repast Stay positive and enjoy. Take a wonderful family unit day enjoying this repast.
02/27/2011
do not add more than cookin' for xtra briskets...50 min. per lb..

"What's more Irish than a traditional recipe for corned beef and cabbage?" The respond is - lots of things! Corned beef and cabbage is not a traditional Irish dish. Born and bred in Ireland, I was in my 50's when I spent some fourth dimension in the US and was told that everyone eats corned beef and cabbage on St. Paddy's Day. I had never heard of it and I still have never tasted it. When I came home from that trip I did ask effectually, in case I somehow had missed this vital part of Irish tradition, merely, no, I have still to run across whatsoever Irish national who has really eaten corned beef and cabbage. Further research has taught me that, in fact, Irish gaelic immigrants to America began eating corned beef, which they bought from Jewish butchers, considering of their new-found affluence. At home, in Republic of ireland, it was only the very wealthy who could beget to consume beef. Then, eating corned beef on Paddy'south Day is actually an American-Irish gaelic-Jewish tradition.

Wow, I listened to the reviews. I added 10 pepper corns, iii cloves of garlic, one bay foliage. I cooked a four pound trimmed cut for iii hours then moved it to the oven with Tracey's (her review is highly rated) sauce while I cooked the veggies. The best corn beef I have ever had. My family unit mowed through information technology. This should not be reserved for St Pats twenty-four hours. This is a globe class meal....

This is the first fourth dimension I have made corned beef and cabbage this fashion. Normally I brand information technology in the crock pot. I always worried about it not coming out tender if information technology was boiled. This recipe was perfect, the merely thing I added was a can of beer for more than flavor. I volition be making it this way from at present on. Bye bye crock pot recipe!

Skillful template for a superb classic dish. I highly recommend using a can or two low-sodium beef broth instead of water, which really enhances flavor without oversalting the recipe. If yous're a garlichead like me try tossing in five or half-dozen cloves when you commencement the meat, and mash them into the stock after they cook to tender.

The all-time ever! I have tried everything from baking, steaming, to slow cooking. Nothing compares to this one. The but difference was, I added 1 peeled onion whole, a table spoon of alspice, and several bay leaves. Wow, this is the only one for u.s..

Offset of all, permit me state I am not a corned beef fan. I decided to embrace my 12.v % Irish gaelic blood in me on a whim this morning and make something in honor of St. Patrick's Day. Stumbled upon this recipe with such rave reviews that I dashed out to the market in search of a 3 lb corned beef and some soda bread...got Guinness as an impulse item to authenticate the meal while I was at it, and glad I did since I used the reviewers suggestions and gave upwardly ii of the bottles for the pot. I warned my hubby of almost 25 years that if nosotros didn't like the meat, there were enough of veggies to sustain us. All I tin say is I can no longer say I'thousand not a corned beefiness fan...though so far I only similar my own recipe (see how quickly something I larn becomes my ain--it's a Greek thing)! I added one whole onion, 3 cloves of garlic (I dear garlic and next time I'll add together more), ane TBSP Allspice and doubled the carrots and cabbage. Non large into potatoes, but the family unit is, and potatoes are just so Irish gaelic. Simmered iii hours, and then added potatoes for xv min, then the carrots for another 15 and and then cabbage for the concluding 15. I heated upward purchased Irish Soda Bread while the cabbage simmered. I served the meal on a big platter with the meat against 1 side of the platter, with the veggies surrounding the meat--I put the potatoes on ane side of the meat, the carrots on the other side and the cabbage betwixt, surrounding the meat for a colorful presentation. The adults were given Guinness Bottles a

Delicious. Nosotros enjoyed this very much. I had no red potatoes, then I used 6 medium-sized russets I had already, peeled and quartered. I layered the potatoes and carrots on the lesser of my crock pot and put the meat on top. My cabbage did not fit in my crock, then I laid it on pinnacle of the meat. I filled it halfway with water, threw in a few beefiness bullion cubes and let it cook. Every bit the crock filled with juice I pushed the cabbage downward a bit. I cooked it on high for 5 hours or then and everything was swell. Loved information technology. I don't think information technology needed the beef bullion. Very flavorful broth!

This was my start time making corned beef, and I will definitely be making information technology once again! The process is so like shooting fish in a barrel, if somewhat lengthy, but the results are well worth it. I used half of the seasoning packet included in the package with the meat, and also took the recommended communication of using beefiness broth as the cooking liquid. When information technology was done cooking, I found the meat to exist too salty, then I took the advice of another user and made a simple glaze out of brown saccharide, mustard, butter, ketchup, and apple cider vinegar, so put the beefiness in a minor baking pan and baked information technology at 350 for half an hour while the veggies cooked in the on the stove. I was a little skeptical, but the effect was an extremely tender, salty-sweet brisket that went perfectly with the vegetables.

I set this dish quite ofttimes equally my family loves it! I only add, during the last 1/2 hr, the potatoes and carrots around the beef and then place cabbage wedges on pinnacle of everything to steam, comprehend and finish cooking. Likewise, to serve DO please try a generous corporeality of French'southward Mustard on the sliced corn beef and butter on the veggies ...information technology's just heavenly!

It got my half dozen twelvemonth old daughter to eat cabbage. My wife and ii yr old son are not too keen on corned beef, merely the child and I beloved corned beef (especially common cold leftovers). This recipe was simple and perfect. I haven't added cabbage since my girl was born, merely I thought I would requite it a shot. I did add together onions, fresh garlic, extra mustard seed, and celery, only on the whole information technology would have been easy and delicious regardless. I also cut upwardly the scarlet potatoes and carrots and boiled them off 10 min before adding the cabbage, then boiled off the cabbage for 10 min, then returned the rested beef to the pot for another ten-15 min on simmer. Anyway you lot practice it, it's piece of cake and delicious. Volition add mushrooms side by side fourth dimension, I recall. If you cut your potatoes don't overcook. I also serve with Southern way cornbread.

This recipe worked well. I did melt my brisket in water and the veggies turned out just a bit bland. Side by side fourth dimension I will attempt using beef broth as suggested by other reviewers. All in all a good recipe that I will apply again.
